PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPY

Psychosexual therapy, or sex therapy, is a talking-based approach to help people explore and overcome sexual difficulties.

Sex and sexual response is just as much to do with our beliefs, feelings, thoughts and emotions as our bodily and physical sensations. The cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) model highlights that our thoughts (cognitions), feelings/emotions, bodily sensations and behaviour are intrinsically linked, and so if we begin to explore and alter one of those elements, usually cognitions, then we can elicit change in others, principally behaviour and bodily sensations.

I work using a range of techniques and often give clients exercises to try at home between sessions.

I work with both couples and individuals and offer support with the following problems:

- Vaginismus

- Painful sex (dyspareunia)

- Ejaculation difficulties, such as premature/rapid ejaculation or delayed ejaculation

- Erectile difficulties

- Loss of libido/loss of desire

- Orgasm issues or anorgasmia (lack of orgasm)

- Arousal difficulties

- Anxiety around sex, relationships and intimacy

- Difficulty following a diagnosis of a sexually transmitted infection (such as herpes or HIV)

If you have a sexual difficulty that is not listed above, please contact me to discuss if I can still support you, or if I can signpost you to a more appropriate service or therapist.
